MLB Draft Recap

Welcome to another edition of WhoReps' look at the world of sports. Today we'll be recapping the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft and the representation of the players selected. Enjoy!

That time of year again. Where all of baseball's 30 Major League teams get to place their hope in a glorious future rather than a moribund present. Even though most prospects never amount to much, THESE kids will definitely bring a championship home to some lucky franchise. Until next year of course, when we forget all about them because there's another new crop of shiny young teenagers. The Detroit Tigers had the first pick thanks to their 64-98 campaign last year, and surprised nobody with their selection of Auburn pitcher Casey Mize. Mize has been dominant pitching in the SEC, showcasing an ability to throw four different pitches with elite command and velocity. Likely the most big-league ready player in the draft, he's a sure bet to speed through the Tigers' minor league system.

With the second pick, the Giants took Georgia Tech catcher Joey Bart, ushering in a golden age of both Simpsons and BART puns. The Giants are preparing for a future beyond their current backstop, five time All-Star and former MVP Buster Posey. The Giants have gone all in on this year with veterans, adding third baseman Evan Longoria from Tampa Bay and centerfielder Andrew McCutchen from Pittsburgh. If it goes south, San Francisco will find themselves picking at the top of the draft with regularity once again. Check out the rest of the draft below!
