Box Office Round-Up ~ 10/12/26

With Halloween season in full swing, horror won the weekend as Other Mommy outperformed expectations with a $27.8 million box office debut. The film received tepid critical and audience reactions, but thanks to a talked-about teaser trailer (and the ever-reliable horror genre), drew in audiences for its opening weekend.

Verity moved to second place for its sophomore weekend, grossing $12 million to reach $54 million total domestically. Resident Evil grossed $8.5 million in its fourth weekend to reach $138 million overall, while Heart of the Beast landed in fourth place with $7.4 million for a domestic total of $50 million after three weekends.

Another new release took fifth place, as The Social Reckoning opened to a debut gross of $5 million. Sixteen years removed from the original The Social Network, writer and now director Aaron Sorkin’s sequel underperformed its predecessor’s 2010 opening weekend of $22 million. It will likely see stiffer competition this coming weekend with the arrival of Street Fighter, alongside the latest adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, spider horror flick Crawlers and survival thriller Whalefall.
