Box Office Round-Up ~ 5/11/26

It was a flawless victory for The Devil Wears Prada 2 as it won the Mother’s Day weekend box office, beating out several strong new releases with a sophomore weekend gross of $43 million. Its chief competition came in the form of fellow sequel Mortal Kombat II, which debuted in second place with a solid $38.5 million.

Michael moved down to third place with $36.5 million, passing $200 million domestically and $500 million worldwide after just three weekends. It’s now the third highest grossing movie of 2026, behind just Project Hail Mary and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Two more new releases rounded out the top five. The Sheep Detectives rode a wave of positive critical and audience reactions to a very good $15.9 million debut, which concert film Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour debuted with $7.5 million. This coming weekend’s biggest new release is Focus Features’ horror film Obsession, from writer/director Curry Barker. Both the film and filmmaker have been generating a lot of positive buzz, with Barker already slated to take over the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise for A24 in the near future.
