Box Office Round-Up ~ 3/9/26

After several years of struggling to get original stories off the ground, Disney and Pixar finally found a measure of success with Hoppers, which opened this past weekend with $46 million. It’s the best opening weekend for a non-sequel Pixar movie since Coco way back in 2017. The hope is likely that Hoppers will see strong legs in the coming weeks, similar to Elemental in 2023. It won’t have much in the way of family-friendly competition for the rest of March, so the odds are in its favor.

Scream 7 moved to second place in its second weekend with a sharp 72% drop to $17.3 million. The movie hasn’t gotten the best word-of-mouth since opening, and we may be seeing the effect of that as audiences look elsewhere. Horror in general had a tough weekend, as The Bride! opened in the third place with a disappointing $7.2 million.

GOAT and Wuthering Heights rounded out the top five with a respective $6.6 million and $3.7 million, putting the former just above $80 million overall domestically and the latter just below (at $78 million). This coming weekend sees the release of Reminders of Him, starring Maika Monroe and Bradley Whitford, the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation (It Ends With Us, Regretting You).
