Box Office Round-Up ~ 3/29/26

The top five at the box office remained basically unchanged for the final weekend of March, with one horror movie swapped out for another. Once again, Project Hail Mary was atop the charts, bringing in $54.5 million in its second weekend. It’s now at $164 million in the U.S. and just cleared $300 million worldwide. Hoppers took second place with $12.2 million, putting it at $138 million after four weekends.

They Will Kill You, an action horror flick led by Zazie Beetz (Joker, TV’s Atlanta), debuted in third place with a decent $5 million debut. It’s not quite as good an opening as Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’s $9 million last weekend (which incidentally was just outside the top five, grossing $4 million). Dhurandar: The Revenge moved to fourth place in its second weekend on U.S. screens, taking in $4.74 million. Reminders of Him was just behind it in fifth place, with a third-weekend total of $4.7 million, putting it just over $40 million overall domestically.

The first weekend of April kicks off early, with a Wednesday April 1 release for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The first Mario movie brought in $146 million in early April 2023, going on to clear a billion dollars worldwide. Universal and Illumination are hoping for similar numbers the second time around and considering the lack of any competition this coming weekend, other studios clearly aren’t doubting them.
