Box Office Round-Up ~ 3/16/26

All eyes in Hollywood may have been on the Oscars, but that didn’t stop Hoppers from winning its second weekend in a row at the box office, grossing $28.5 million for a domestic total of $86 million thus far. It beat out both major new releases, with Colleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him opening in second place with a solid $18.2 million. Canadian horror import Undertone opened in third with $9.3 million, very good numbers for a movie budgeted at roughly half a million dollars.

Scream 7 moved down to fourth place, clearing $100 million overall with a third-weekend gross of $8.3 million. GOAT rounded out the top five with $4.7 million, for a $90 million domestic total after five weekends.

Two notable re-releases also made decent numbers outside the top five. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze brought in $1.4 million for its 25th anniversary re-release (bringing its overall domestic haul to $80 million). Similarly, Studio Ghibli classic Kiki’s Delivery Service grossed $1.1 million, almost doubling its all-time U.S. box office total.

This coming weekend sees the biggest new release of the spring so far with Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Based on a novel by Andy Weir (The Martian), it’s Lord and Miller’s first directorial effort since 2014’s 22 Jump Street (not for lack of trying though, lest we forget Solo: A Star Wars Story).
