Box Office Round-Up ~ 7/20/26

It took Odysseus ten years to get home, but only a weekend to clear $100 million. After much anticipation, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey debuted to a massive $123.5 million opening weekend. That’s the biggest opening weekend for a Christopher Nolan movie not involving Batman, and the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie not involving Deadpool. (Superheroes loom large…) The film cleared $264 million internationally, and should do well this coming weekend with no big-ticket new releases until Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the end of the month.

Speaking of Disney, Moana and Toy Story 5 took second and third place with $17.9 million and $13.7 million respectively. The former continues to underperform with just $81 million overall in the U.S., while the latter has reach $429 million domestically to become the highest grossing movie of 2026 so far. (The Odyssey may have something to say about that when all is said and done.)

Minions & Monsters grossed $13.6 million in fourth place to gross $136 million so far, while Evil Dead Burn moved to fifth place in its second weekend, grossing $4.7 million for a domestic total of $23 million. New releases this coming weekend include Alan Ritchson-led actioner Motor City as well as Her Private Hell, director Nicholas Winding Refn’s first movie since 2016’s The Neon Demon.
