Box Office Round-Up ~ 2/17/26

Multiple new releases benefited at the box office from the double holiday weekend. (Triple holiday if you want to count today… happy Lunar New Year!) Wuthering Heights was the big Valentine’s Day draw, winning the weekend with a $32.8 million debut. Its opening weekend alone makes it the highest grossing movie of writer/director Emerald Fennell’s career, far surpassing Promising Young Woman and Saltburn.

The animated basketball adventure GOAT opened in second place with $27.2 million, while the Chris Hemsworth-led Crime 101 took third with $14.2 million. That makes three original new releases (albeit two based on books, but not exactly studio IP) taking the top three spots at the box office, yet another sign that there is still a theater-going audience looking for something other than massive franchise blockbusters.

Next weekend features another diverse group of smaller new releases, including dark comedy How to Make a Killing starring Glen Powell, slasher horror Psycho Killer, faith-based sequel I Can Only Imagine 2, and the wide release of erotic comedy Pillion, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Melling.
