Series Snapshot ~ 3/12/2026

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

This week Netflix’s original regency romance Bridgerton defends its spot at the top again, even a few weeks after the release of season four’s finale. The strategic release of the season over two parts seems to have paid off, and the Bridgerton team continues to invest in social media engagement, ramping up anticipation for seasons five and six which were recently greenlit. As the series continues to unfold, both ratings and viewership have also increased, with season four receiving some of the strongest praise. Critics and viewers alike laud the captivating chemistry between Yerin Ha and Luke Thompson as Sophie and Benedict. Fans of the series can look forward to season five airing sometime in late 2027, as showrunner Jess Brownwell hopes to tighten up the production schedule, shortening the typical two-year gap between seasons. Bridgerton was created by Chris Van Dusen, and based on the novels by Julia Quinn

The ever-more-topical apocalypse series Paradise enjoys another victory lap this week, as plots thicken and stakes ramp up. Recent episodes have showcased some of the best performances in the series, from Sterling K. BrownShailene Woodley, and James Marsden, who plays Paradise’s fictional president. While Paradise follows an ambitious narrative structure and genre shift between seasons, (political murder mystery to sci-fi thriller) not everyone loves the heavy reliance on flashbacks, and that same ambition has earned it one or two comparisons to beloved shows like Lost, which felt aimless in its many rabbit holes and tangential subplots. Despite minor quips, the series is recognized for its nuanced writing and emotional authenticity from the main cast. Season two will air its finale March 30, and production for season three will begin shortly after, set to release early 2027. Paradise was created by Dan Fogelman.

This week, HBO original medical drama The Pitt narrowly dethroned Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which recently wrapped its first season, and has likely peaked in viewer saturation. When it first aired, The Pitt caused quite a stir for several reasons; first its unique approach to episode structure where all of season one happened in one dayl, and secondly for its realistic, unglamorized portrayal of the E.R., emphasizing the exhaustion, thanklessness and tedium that nurses and doctors are faced with. Noah Wyle is the heartbeat of the series, and his performance as Dr. “Robby” Rabinovitch earned him his first primetime Emmy award for Best Actor In A TV Series - Drama. Season two continues The Pitt’s winning formula, further deepening the relationships between Dr. Robby and the ensemble cast, who deliver equally dialed in, realistic performances, augmented by generally strong, true-to-life dialogue. The Pitt also stars Katherine LaNasa, Patrick Ball, and Taylor Dearden, and was created by R. Scott Gemmill.

The world’s most famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes explores a new reboot at Amazon this week, with Young Sherlock, which takes its top spot. Re-imagined as a 19 year old oxford student, Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) finds himself at the center of a murder investigation. His close friend (later, arch-rival) James Moriarty, played by Dónal Finn, is also implicated, and the two must work together to clear their names. While the series debuted with a perfect “Rotten Tomatoes” score, its ratings have dipped slightly since, but still remain high. Critics praise the show for its cleverness, quick pacing and confident performances from its two leads, whose back and forth teems with youthful charm. Much of this exuberance is brought forth by director, Guy Ritchie, who worked meticulously in crafting Young Sherlock’s fast-paced scene work, and in this iteration cleverly represents Sherlock’s internal thought process as a messy attic. Colin Firth also gets particular acknowledgement for his work as Sir Bucephalus Hodge, the arrogant Dean of Oxford, and source of strife for Sherlock. Young Sherlock was created by Matthew Parkhill, and based on the novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

AppleTV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters continues to thrill audiences with its impressive CGI and brilliant casting. Audiences have no shortage of praise for the father-son duo of Kurt and Wyatt Russell, who play the same character, Colonel Shaw, over two timelines. So far season two is outperforming its first season, delivering movie-quality effects and raising the stakes. The new season shifts its focus from Godzilla to King Kong, and also sets up a new potential big-bad, “Titan-X”, an underwater behemoth and unprecedented threat. Viewers note however that Monarch isn’t just explosions and destruction, at the center of the chaos exists a deeper examination of humanity, and the consequences often brushed over in the aftermath of disaster. While AppleTV has not officially confirmed a third season, series creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction have stated they’d like to continue the story, and have many ideas for future seasons.

On Disney Plus, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette is once again most watched, with this week’s episode ramping up towards the couple’s 1996 wedding and famous Washington Square Park argument, as Bessette grapples with the pressure of being in the cross hairs of the paparazzi. Sarah Pidgeon plays Bessette with nuance and humanity, explaining that she worked with a movement coach and analyzed rare-footage to recreate mannerisms with authenticity, and Paul Anthony Kelley has established himself as one to watch, portraying JFK Jr. with an uncanny likeness. Love Story was created by Connor Hines and Ryan Murphy
